This month the ethnomusicology students organized and performed in the annual Hear the World Concert on March 2. This year's concert featured music from West Africa, Taiwan, Guatemala, China, Venezuela, and India. Ethnomusicology Ph.D. student Meng Ren received the Ricco Ethics Award as part of the annual essay competition. The ethnomusicology graduate students Yang Chen, Miguel Espinel, Salvador Hernandez, Stacey Key, Yuxin Mei, and Jose Torres presented papers at the Society for Ethnomusicology, Southern Plains regional conference, held at UT Austin on March 30. Their papers were well-received and they did a great job representing UNT's growing ethnomusicology program. MA student Thanmayee Krishnamurthy performed as part of the program "Samapanam" in honor of a master sculptor, the late T. N. Padmanabhan. The event was hosted by Dallas Namadhwar on March 30.
