Erika Soveranes (PhD, Ethnomusicology) was awarded the Vida Chenoweth Prize for the best student paper at the Society for Ethnomusicology-Southern Plains' Regional Chapter meeting held on April 9, 2022. Her paper was titled, “Ernestine “La Jovencita” Romero: Bridging the Gap Between Tejano and Nuevomejicano.”

Rachel Schuck (PhD, Ethnomusicology) was awarded the Vida Chenoweth Student Paper Prize for her paper, "Virtual Aaraathanai:” Assimilation Practices in Dallas Tamil Church Worship, August 2020-January 2021," which she presented at the annual meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology Southern Plains in 2021.

Nate Ash-Morgan

Student Award
Nathanial Ash-Morgan received a Graduate Research Experiences Abroad Travel Grant (GREAT) Grant from the University of North Texas's Division of International Affairs. The grant will support Ash-Morgan's fieldwork in Ghana and thereby further his dissertation on Ghanaian traditional and popular music.
