Emma Hans

Emma Hans is a Music Theory master’s student at the University of North Texas. She got her BMus in Voice at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. Emma has spent the last year after graduation teaching private lessons in voice, piano, and music theory. Her research interests are 18th and 19th-century harmonies, salon music, and narrative in art songs. 

Sylvia Hsu

Sylvia Hsu (BM, 2021) is a master’s student in Music Theory. She studied with Mimi Stillman at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance in Philadelphia, PA, majoring in music theory with a flute concentration. She was a member of the Temple University Symphonic Band. As a flutist, she has attended various solo competitions and won second place at the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia Youth Artist Competition.

Nathan Lowe

Nathan Lowe is pursuing A PhD in Music theory. Originally from Australia where he has worked as a primary music school teacher, piano teacher and theory teacher.  His research interests are music from the late classical era, romantic era and all keyboard music. 

 

Outside of the music field, he likes to be involved in sports and also working in the automotive industry. 

Isis Cabrera

Isis Victoria Cabrera completed her a B.M. in Vocal Performance and an M.M. in Music Theory at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is a PhD candidate in Music Theory and will work as an Aural Skills Teaching Fellow at UNT. Isis is a first-generation Puerto–Rican and Cuban American from Miami, Florida. Her research interests include French Romantic Music, the music of Frédéric Chopin, Caribbean music, and Film/Videogame music. 

Brian Sanders

Brian Sanders is a PhD student in Music Theory. He received his Bachelor’s in Piano Pedagogy at the University of Texas at Tyler and Masters in Music Theory at the University of Texas at Arlington where he completed his thesis was on Shostakovich’s Twelve-Tone Characteristics in String Quartet no.15 in E-flat minor, op.144. 

Alison Parker

Alison Parker is a dual master's student at the University of North Texas studying Music Theory and Flute Performance. She holds a Teaching Assistantship position within the Theory department. She received a Bachelors in Music Education and a Bachelors in Flute Performance from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. Her interests include 20th and 21st century techniques, popular and electronic music, and theory pedagogy. Outside of her academic interests, she enjoys singing, gaming, and strength training.

Eric Swartz

Eric Swartz is a master's student in music theory. He completed his undergraduate at Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor of Arts of Music and a minor in religious studies.  Eric’s main instrument is trumpet, but he also plays piano.  His research interests are 20th Century music, film scores, and religious music.  During his free time, he likes to compose music, ranging from classical to jazz.  

Jiaqi Sun

Jiaqi Sun is a Ph.D. student in Music Theory and works as a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas. She completed her bachelor's degree in Musicology with a specialization in Musical Acoustics at the China Conservatory of Music in China and master's degree in Music Theory at Kent State University in the United States. Her research interests include female composers and their music, cross-cultural-related topics in music, and music theory pedagogy for students from different age groups.

Dorian Stewart

“Dorian Stewart (they/them) is pursuing an M.A. in Music Theory at the University of North Texas, where they serve as a teaching assistant for undergraduate theory courses. Their main research area is popular music analysis with an emphasis on alternative rock, metal, and the trap music subgenre of hip-hop.

Levi Walls

Levi Walls is a PhD student in music theory, with a related field in English Literature Studies. He has presented at conferences at the graduate, regional, and national level, including at the Society for Music Theory. His research interests include semiotics, the intersection of music and literature, and the influence of literary theory on music studies.
