José Barnett Jr.

José Barnett Jr. is a PhD candidate in music theory with a related field in jazz studies at the University of North Texas.  José is also an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Texas Woman’s University where he teaches Aural Skills.  Presently, his research interests include projects related to the history of music theory and rhythm and meter in clave based music.  He was co-editor in the new edition by music publisher Bärenreiter of Claudio Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea.   Additionally, he has served as the webmaster for UNT’s Graduate Association of Musicologists and Theorists (GAMuT). 

Previous to his focus to music theory, José gathered extensive experience teaching music in the public schools (band, orchestra, and general music) and as a performer on trombone.
