Dani Van Oort is a PhD student and Teaching Assistant in Musicology. Her previous degrees include a BM in Music Education with a minor in Developmental Psychology from North Dakota State University (2013) and an MA in Music History and Literature with secondary emphasis in Flute Performance from Marshall University (2016). Her research interests include the relationship between pastoral literature, mythology, and music. Previous research projects on this topic include the dissemination of the pastoral tradition in literature, art, and madrigals during the late sixteenth century, representations of sexuality through birdsong in Renaissance chansons, and the use of the pastoral topic in opera seria and Handel's cantatas.
